Extra Fee for Boarding First; Coach Seats in First Few Rows on American Airlines

If you prefer to sit in the bulkhead seats of the economy class cabin on American Airlines — or in the row or two of seats immediately behind the bulkhead seat row, depending on aircraft — be prepared to pay $19 to $39 in fees as part of the “Express Seats” option, according to an article in USA Today.

Do you like to be one of the first to board the aircraft? That is no problem on American Airlines, as long as you are willing to fork over $10 for the privilege.

While full-fare passengers and frequent flier elite members are reportedly exempt from the fees, one has to wonder either:

  • How passengers who used to have certain options and choices in the past free of charge feel to now pay for them, or
  • How full-fare passengers and frequent flier elite members feel about competing for services and features with other passengers who are willing to pay for them…
